INTERVIEWER: Mateusz, you’re known for building a strong fleet of express vans at Matex Transport. But now we see something different. What’s going on?

MATEUSZ SOBOLEWSKI (CEO): That’s right. Matex Transport has always been about reliability and speed. But the industry is changing. In 2022, we added full-size trucks to our fleet, including Scania and Iveco models. This year, we are excited to introduce a new chapter with semi-trucks like Iveco Daily with direct loading platform. This is not just a new vehicle, but a new strategic direction.

More importantly, it’s all part of our broader vision: the implementation of Logistics 5.0 – Matex Transport’s innovative strategy for the future.

INTERVIEWER: Why the shift? Why semi-trucks?

Mateusz: The upcoming changes from the EU Mobility Package, especially those taking effect in July 2026, will transform the express delivery landscape. Vans will be required to use tachographs, which will lead to higher costs, more restrictions and less flexibility. Semi-trucks like the Iveco Daily 72C21 will enable us to bridge that gap. They offer the speed and manoeuvrability of a van, while also being compliant with upcoming regulations.

We’re not just reacting to change – we’re getting ahead of it. This model offers direct rear loading via ramps, making it ideal for clients such as Amazon who rely on efficient docking systems. These trucks represent the next generation, and we are one of the first companies to adopt them on such a large scale.

INTERVIEWER: Will express transport still exist after July 2026?

MATEUSZ: Yes, absolutely. But it will evolve. Companies that are solely focused on van-based express transport may struggle. At Matex, we’ve spent the last few years preparing for this. While some of our solutions remain confidential, I can reveal that we will continue to offer express deliveries, just with smarter fleet configurations. Our clients will barely notice the transition, but certainly feel the benefits.

INTERVIEWER: Do you think vans will disappear from international transport?

MATEUSZ: Not entirely. But their role will change. For example, vans always had the advantages of speed and freedom from tachographs. But after July 2026, that will no longer be the case. Our secret? We’ve already started testing alternative models and routes. We’re ready.

INTERVIEWER: So, should your clients be worried?

MATEUSZ: Not at all. That’s precisely why we’re doing this now. Expanding our fleet with Iveco Daily semi-trucks is just one part of our long-term mobility package strategy. July 2026 will be a turning point for many operators, but we’re already well prepared. Our clients can rely on us to keep their logistics running without interruption, whatever changes occur…

INTERVIEWER: You mentioned Logistics 5.0 – what exactly is it?

Mateusz: Logistics 5.0 is our signature concept, which we’re implementing this year. It’s a strategy that combines advanced technologies with human expertise. By transitioning to Logistics 5.0, we are committed to offering our customers and partners enhanced flexibility, personalised services and optimised processes.

INTERVIEWER: Can you tell us more about this Iveco Daily model? What makes it special?

MATEUSZ: This semi-truck features a powerful yet fuel-efficient 3.0L engine. It’s built for heavy use: it’s reliable, durable and adaptable. These models also come with advanced safety systems and ergonomic interiors, and they support direct ramp loading, which is essential for fast-paced warehouse operations.

We chose this model specifically to meet the upcoming legal requirements and operational needs of clients such as Amazon and DHL, as well as other logistics centres with strict docking standards.

INTERVIEWER: I’d like to know the dimensions and specifications.

MATEUSZ: Depending on the configuration, the cargo area can accommodate up to 14 europallets. The vehicle’s capacity is up to 3 tons and it remains highly manoeuvrable on narrow roads and in city zones. Semi-trucks are also ideal for both full truckload (FTL) and groupage (LTL) deliveries, offering great flexibility for various types of cargo and routes. These are 2025 models that comply with Euro 6 regulations and are equipped with smart technology. 

INTERVIEWER: Is this the future of Matex Transport?

MATEUSZ: It’s certainly a big part of it. We’re not replacing our express vans; we’re evolving. We want to offer a full range of transport solutions. That means large trucks, semi-trucks and, yes, express vans too. However, we’re building a more resilient model. The Mobility Package will shake up the industry, but we’ve already adapted. Others are still trying to catch up.
