Tachographs in express transport

From 1 July 2026

an important change will come into force – tachographs will be mandatory for vans up to 3.5 tonnes in international transport.

The transport market is undergoing dynamic change and the forthcoming tachograph regulations will only accelerate this process.

At Matex Transport, we are well aware that the future belongs to those who can anticipate and react quickly enough to change. That is why we are already implementing a series of measures that will allow us not only to survive, but to become an even stronger player in the market.

What new responsibilities will transport companies have?

From 1 July 2026, carriers using vans with a GVW of up to 3.5 tonnes on international routes will be required to:

  • Equip their buses with digital or analogue tachographs that comply with current standards.
  • Calibrate and regularly service the tachographs.
  • Download and analyse tachograph data.
  • Comply with the rules on drivers’ working and rest periods.
  • Keeping records of tachographs.
NEW REGULATIONS - NEW OPPORTUNITIES

The introduction of tachographs for vehicles with smaller payloads up to 3.5 tonnes is not only a challenge, but also an opportunity to improve transport safety standards and create more sustainable logistics. At Matex Transport, we see these changes as an opportunity to optimise our processes and adapt our offer even better to the needs of our customers.

We are implementing a carefully considered development strategy to optimise our processes and increase the efficiency of our operations. Investment in state-of-the-art technology and employee training are key elements of this plan. This will enable us to meet the most demanding market challenges.

What does it mean for our customers?

Guarantee of priority

We guarantee that no matter what happens in the transport market, our regular customers can always count on us. Our offer is a guarantee of continuity of supply and stable business relationships.

Increased predictability

Precise route planning and monitoring of drivers' working hours enables us to offer our customers even more punctual deliveries.

Improved safety

By adhering to driver working time regulations, you can be assured that our services are provided in a safe and responsible manner that complies with all standards and regulations.

As a result of such drastic changes

it is feared that small businesses that are unable to meet the new legal requirements of the Mobility Package will gradually disappear from the market, with serious consequences, such as :

Supply reduction

  • Reducing the number of transport operators/carriers
Many small operators with smaller buses may not be able to bear the costs of adapting their vehicles to the new rules (purchase and installation of tachographs, driver training). As a result, some of them may have to go out of business.
  • Reduced availability of services
Fewer hauliers in the market means a reduction in the availability of transport services, particularly on less profitable or less popular routes.
  • Disruption to supply chains
Companies using small carriers may find it difficult to ensure the continuity of their supply chains, leading to delays in order fulfilment and increased costs.

Drastic price increases

  • Higher operating costs
The introduction of tachographs means additional costs for hauliers, such as the purchase and installation of equipment, driver training and increased vehicle maintenance costs.
  • Passing on costs to customers
To cover the increase in operating costs, hauliers will be forced to increase the price of their services.
  • Inflation in the transport sector
An increase in the price of transport services can contribute to an increase in the price of other products and services, leading to overall inflation in the economy.

Market destabilisation

  • Market concentration
Larger transport companies with more financial resources will find it easier to adapt to the new regulations and take over part of the market from smaller companies.
  • Increasing inequality
Market concentration can increase inequality between large and small companies and reduce competition.
  • Loss of jobs
A reduction in the number of small transport companies may lead to job losses, particularly in regions where the transport sector is an important employer.

As a pioneer in the transport industry, we are compact and ready for the changes to come. Our years of experience and our team of the best people in the industry allow us to adapt quickly and effectively to the new regulations by implementing our strategic plan from last year. Thanks to our proactive attitude and the projects we have initiated, we will be able to maintain our leading position in the market by providing our customers with an innovative transport offer using our own fleet.
